Biography :
Dr. Linda Winkler is an anthropologist with a multidisciplinary academic background, holding a Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology and an MPH from the University of Pittsburgh. Her research focuses on global and community health, international collaboration, and expanding global perspectives in higher education. She has taught at multiple institutions, including Wilkes University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Semester at Sea, and has been recognized with numerous teaching and service awards. Dr. Winkler’s research spans maternal health, cultural correlates of disease, and primatology. Her recent work assesses maternal and infant mortality in rural Tanzania, where she collaborates with Nyakahanga Hospital. She has also developed Swahili-language children's books to support AIDS education and cultural awareness in East Africa. An active member of professional organizations such as the American Anthropological Association and the Medical Anthropology Association, Dr. Winkler serves as a journal and grant reviewer, including for the National Science Foundation. Her contributions to anthropology and global health continue to impact research and education worldwide.
