
Biography :
Prof. Dr. med. Heinz-Peter Schultheiss is an eminent German cardiologist, Emeritus Professor and former Chairman of the Cardiovascular Center at University Hospital Charité, Berlin, and Founder and CEO of the Institute for Cardiac Diagnostic and Therapy (IKDT), Berlin, which he established in 2003. He served from 1994 to 2014 as C4 Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiology, Pulmonology, and Intensive Care at the Benjamin Franklin University Hospital, Freie Universität Berlin, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, following a C3 Professorship at Heinrich Heine University Hospital, Düsseldorf (1989–1994). Earlier, he was Senior Cardiologist and Head of the Internal Intensive Care Unit at the University of Munich, Klinikum Großhadern, where he also held several scientific assistant positions, and he was a recipient of a Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft research grant at the Institute of Physical Biochemistry, University of Munich. Prof. Schultheiss completed his Habilitation at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, earned his doctoral degree from Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg in 1977, and received his medical approbation in 1974, and is internationally recognized for his longstanding contributions to cardiovascular medicine, research, and academic leadership.
